ABS Module types by year

Determining what type of unit is in your car.

This is a simple guide on how to determine what type of unit your car has in it.  The type of unit your car uses IS NOT determined by the VIN, engine, transmission or trim options on the car.

1996-1998 850, v70, s70 and c70

1996-1998 850, v70, s70 and c70

1996-1998 850, v70, s70 and c70

This spread of cars only uses two different modules.  You either have TRACS traction control or you don't.

Cars with TRACS will have a switch on the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel that is labeled "TRACS".  You will also have a light illuminated that says TRACS OFF right by the ABS light. 1998 All-Wheel Drive cars have TRACS from the factory.

Your S/E/W button on your center console IS NOT traction control as pertaining to your ABS module

Cars without TRACS will only have the ABS light on and no switch on the dashboard.

1999-2000 v70, s70 and c70.

1996-1998 850, v70, s70 and c70

1996-1998 850, v70, s70 and c70

This spread of cars uses three different modules.  STC, TRACS and regular ABS without traction control.

Cars with TRACS will have a switch on the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel that is labeled "TRACS"  99-2000 All-wheel drive cars have TRACS from the factory without the TRACS switch on the dashboard.

The "W" button on the center console is NOT TRACS traction control.

Cars with STC will have a switch on the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel that is labeled "STC". Again, the "W" button is NOT STC traction control.

Front wheel drive cars without an STC switch or TRACS switch do not have traction control.  Again, the "W" button is not traction control .
